Stigma & What It Means To Be Resilient. Peter M. Bernstein, PhD

Peter M. Bernstein is back.Peter was first on the podcast in episode 91 and if you’ve listened to that interview then you know how inspiring this gentleman is.I have to say that Peter’s interview truly epitomized what I’m trying to do with my work here at The Trauma Therapist Project, which is to stand for authenticity, integrity, and compassion in the pursuit of helping those who’ve been impacted by trauma. But as we all quickly figure out, things don't just simply stop there. When you interview people, like I do, who focus on doing the inner-work necessary to sit with those who've been impacted by trauma, it tends to rub off on you.And I think that's what's been happening to me.I'm talking about the practice of trying to be more present, compassionate, to be an active listener, and to embrace, full humanbeingness, as Manuela Mischke-Reeds has said in quoting Chogyam Trumpa Rosha. As I've said recently, this podcast isn't just about...trauma.It's really about the human spirit. This is what my guests share on these episodes. And this is what keeps me going. And I think it's making me look at myself more deeply and shift things around, adjust things, and hopefully I'm becoming a better person because of it! Peter M. Bernstein is the founder and director of the Bernstein Institute for Trauma in Petaluma, CA. Peter holds a doctorate in clinical psychology as a California licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and has been in private practice since 1974.Dr. Bernstein specializes in the field of emotional and physical trauma and is the author of Trauma: Healing the Hidden Epidemic. A veteran of the Vietnam War era, Peter completed advanced infantry training at Fort Ord on the Monterey Peninsula.
